Yuverta Students Design Green Work Walk in Eindhoven

2 minute read

Walking in a green environment is good for relaxation, for concentration and makes you more creative and social. The research project 'Green working walk Eindhoven' investigates the effect of green working walks in the Spoorzone area in Eindhoven. In this project Yuverta students will design, make and test green walks together with various experts and with the support of Yuverta's practorate 'Green Livable City' and the Fontys University of Applied Science lectureship 'Move to Be'.

Gaining Inspiration for Design Walking Route

A team of 4 students of Yuverta’s Groene Lyceum Eindhoven has started working on this project. The first phase has just been completed, in which the students mainly gained inspiration through a visit to the ‘workplace vitality hub’ of Fontys and a working visit to Soontiëns Hoveniers to gain knowledge about planting and growing places. The students then thought about how they were going to design the green walking route. From this, 3 designs eventually emerged. These designs were presented at a location of the municipality in Eindhoven to various stakeholders.

Increasing Biodiversity

Eventually, the final design was chosen in which an arrow (made of moss or plantings) will be placed on the sides of several planters, indicating the route of the working walk. The technical drawing, building plan and a protoype will be made during January 2025. After a master class by practor Heidi Kamerling on biodiversity and planting, a planting plan was chosen in which several types of planting are possible in order to increase biodiversity.

Plotting the Route and Testing It

In the next phase, a social party will put the prototype planters into production. Phase 3 will take place this spring in which the students will plot the route with the planters. Then they will see if and how this will be taken up by the workers and other users of the Spoorzone area in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
