Valencia Kicks Off its European Green Capital Year

At the Palau of València January 11th 2024 took place the two-day opening ceremony of the European Green Capital, which will end with technical conferences.

Valencia European Green Capital kick off meeting took place 11th of January in the auditorium Palau de la Musica in Valencia city. The mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, was hostess throughout the two days of conferences.

Valencia Green Capital, will lead the future of sustainability in Europe in 2024. For this reason, this year Valencia will define the EU’s challenges to make its cities more sustainable.

Opening day

On the opening session several national and international experts, representing the main city alliances, analyzed the five thematic axes of urban sustainability that underpin the Valencia European Green Capital 2024 programme.

Second day

The conferences of the second day focused on technical topics with the participation of leading experts from the European Green Capital Network (EGCN), who will exchange experiences on the challenges in the fields of nature, urban and metropolitan biodiversity, vegetable gardens and sustainable food, as well as public space, mobility and climate mission.

A round table of Mission Cities with representatives from Valladolid, Zaragoza, Vitoria, Madrid, Klagenfurt, Mannheim, Cluj-Napoca and the inspirational speech by Patrick Child, Deputy Director General for the Environment of the European Commission, closes the two days of debate around the official premiere of the city of Valencia as European Green Capital 2024.
