The green educational roof of Yuverta Houten is starting to take shape!
The Green Livable City Hotspot, together with the Royal Ginkel Group, has taken the initiative to create a green educational roof for the green pre-vocational and secondary VET students of Yuverta. With this innovative educational roof, students can learn in real-time how to install and maintain sustainable green roofs and facades.
Yuverta school garden
Construction of the structure, which has an area of 200 m2 and heights of 2 meters to 3 meters, started in February of this year on the site of the Yuverta school garden in Houten. And now, four months later, the roof is largely finished and completely planted. The official opening will be on the 8th of October 2024.
Educational purposes and research
The innovative and sustainable green educational roof serves primarily for educational purposes, but also for research into biodiversity on green roofs, among other things. This research is carried out by Heidi Kamerling, of Yuverta’s Green Liveable City Practorate. In addition, the green education roof also has a demonstration function with which we can make primary school pupils and pre-VET students enthusiastic about Yuverta’s green education.
