A new major partner officially joined the Czech Centre of Vocational Excellence - Green Cities 2030+ . It is the Central Bohemian Region, or rather its Department for Environment and Agriculture. The Centre has thus gained a strong partner who, through its networks, can help disseminate and implement the ideas of the European Platform Urban Greening.
Urban greenery is an essential part of a pleasant environment in the streets of cities and towns. But the changing climate is also changing the role of greenery in the streets. Its role is no longer just to decorate, but also to contribute to better living conditions for the inhabitants of urban agglomerations. This is why the first European Platform for Urban Greening (EPLUG) was created, with the Czech Republic represented by the Regional Agricultural College & Agricultural Secondary School Benešov. On 19 September, the Central Bohemia Region and the school concluded a memorandum of understanding to support the development of urban greenery within their respective capabilities and to deepen cooperation in this area. They want to focus on supporting projects, sharing knowledge and results of the latest developments in the urban green sector. They want to pass on new experiences to cities, their technical services, public administration staff, schools and the general public. The project focuses specifically on urban greening, which can help mitigate negative impacts in climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. The aim is collaboration between vocational schools, research centres and companies to facilitate the adaptation of horticultural education programmes and improve their quality. The Agricultural School from Benešov will be responsible for the Czech Republic for achieving this goal. In the Czech Republic, it will focus in particular on the revitalisation of prefabricated houses and housing estates. These include roof gardens, green facades and new green planting.

The Memorandum was signed at the Regional Office by the school’s director Ivana Dobešová and Councillor for Environment and Agriculture Jana Skopalíková. The ceremony was also attended by Monika Brožová, deputy headmistress of the school, and Jitka Beránková, a member of the UrbanGreening working team.
The Green Cities 2030+ Centre is being established as part of the international project European Platform for Urban Greening (EPLUG). The aim is to increase the knowledge and skills needed to address biodiversity, adaptation to a changing climate and improved living conditions in urban areas and to expand the expertise of staff working on urban greening issues in city, municipal and regional authorities. The information will also reach teachers of vocational subjects and students of secondary and higher vocational schools with a focus on horticulture and landscaping, or other interested parties and experts in this field. The school has already established cooperation with a number of other partners, both from local authorities and specialised companies and educational institutions.
