Solve the Challenges of Nature-based Solutions in Finland in Spring 2025

2 minute read

The International Urban Greening Week will take place again in spring 2025, giving horticulture students from all over Europe the chance to test their skills in a real-life challenge and learn about current issues in urban greening. Challenges will be solved in international student teams, learning from each other and working together. This time the event will take place in Finland, the Netherlands, Romania and Denmark.

Nature-based solutions and hydrological cycle in focus

In Finland, the theme week will take place from 31 March to 4 April 2025 and the venue will be AhlmanEdu in Tampere. The theme of the week is nature-based solutions and the hydrological cycle. The week will have an intensive programme which includes both theory and activities related to the theme, as well as an overview of Finnish culture and the sights of Tampere.

This time participants will be able to experience real-life challenges related to vegetated walls and roofs, stormwater management and urban forestry and maintenance, among other things. Finland’s varying winter conditions will also bring it’s own perspective to the challenges – how to take account of snow, ice and meltwater in an urban environment.

Participants will learn the basics of nature-based solutions and how to apply them in practice in urban green areas. Participants will also learn about the hydrological cycle and how to handle water management in green areas. They will also learn about local culture and network with other students, teachers and partners.

Register here by 31.1.2025.

The International Urban Greening Week is an extraordinary chance for students and teachers

During The International Urban Greening Week, the green students and teachers will spend a week on exchange at another European horticultural education institution with Erasmus+ funding. During the exchange week, the educational institutions and their partners will provide students with theory and challenges on the theme of urban greening, which students will solve in international teams. The event was originally piloted by The European Platform for Urban Greening project.
