The Green Academy in Aarhus and Syddjurs Deanery ( potential new partner of CoVE Denmark), have embarked on a mission to explore the possibilities of jointly developing an educational program for the current and future employees of the Church of Denmark.
Sustainable cemeteries
In particular, it focusses on the group of cemetery managers and employees who take care of the work with the churches’ green areas – and who are often also the first that visitors meet at the cemeteries. “There is a need for that”, says head of education for the landscaping studies at the Green Academy, Peder Glud. “The current focus on sustainability, biodiversity, climate adaptation and human well-being – not least in the modern city – calls for reflections on the layout and use of cemeteries,” he says.
Vocational training for adults
The new education will be launched from late summer 2024 and will initially be offered as a modular course program through the Danish Adult Vocational Training Programmes. In addition to well-known green subject areas, the new education also offers various cultural subjects, which should give the participants communication skills and a solid insight into the work of the Church of Denmark as a cultural institution.
