Yuverta recently received 32 employees of Maison Familiale Rurale (MFR) from Péronnas, France at the Green Hotspot in Houten. The group consisted of teachers, educational support staff and management.

MFR Péronnas wanted to know more about:

  • Yuverta’s vision and its education and training offerings, particularly with regard to Green and Food;
  • the partnerships set up within the Erasmus+ programme;
  • the education system in the Netherlands, linked to the EQF;
  • how Yuverta works on sustainability, for example with the Green Hotspot and the European Platform for Urban Greening;
  • the first International Urban Greening Week in which internationally mixed student teams work on authentic learning assignments from practice;
  • the systems and practices Yuverta uses to promote the well-being and development of the pupils and students

The French teachers also spoke with Dutch colleagues about, among other things, educational practice, academic requirements, and current educational issues. They were also given a tour of the school building, the Yuverta Park and the Yuverta Garden.

About MFR

Maison Familiale Rurale, abbreviated to MFR, is a French educational association founded in 1937 from cooperative partnerships in the countryside to further develop the agricultural sector in France.

Today, the organization consists of nearly 460 local MFRs where a total of 100,000 young people follow their education. MFR offers education and training at VET level. In addition to professional skills, the students also work on their social-emotional skills and citizenship skills.

At MFR Péronnas, students can follow courses in the fields of Landscaping, Cultivation, Horticulture, Food, Trade and the Environment.

Sandwich: alternating work and learning

MFR works with a varied training system that alternates a period of 2 weeks of work with a period of 2 weeks of school (sandwich model). Thanks to good coordination between these periods, MFR is very successful.

MFR Péronnas was very enthusiastic after the visit. The teachers were impressed by how our students learn contextually with the help of projects. The French educational organization would like to enter into a partnership with Yuverta in order to further cooperate and exchange information in the future.
