Here are three main initiatives from year 2023 that have been undertaken to advance urban greening and green education in Romania.
1. School year 2022-2023
More than 17,000 students and more than 250 teachers participated in the project BIODIVERSITY EDUCATION IN URBAN SPACES that was developed and implemented as a part of the European Platform for Urban Greening project. The educational materials (brochures) developed in the project were sent to those teachers and students to be used as a study materials during their classes.
2. March 2023 (official recognition in the Monitorul Official of Romania on 14th June 2023)
The project team from Romania introduced a new occupation in the Romanian Code of Occupations called Gardner. The project team from Romania, Landscape Factory, received the final approval from the Ministry of Labour. The Gardner occupation is now part of the Romanian Code of Occupations.
With this occupation being officially recognized in Romania, Landscape Factory – the Romanian Centers of Vocational Excellence in Urban Greening – can develop new innovative curricula and qualifications for IVET and adult learning, filling in the skills shortage in the field of urban greening.
Landscape Factory starts working with the Ministry of Education to introduce a new EQF3 qualification called Gardner. This new qualification will be available for any VET school of agriculture to make it part of their educational offer.
3. August 2023
Our partner, Cristina Petre-Ghiță, Deputy General School Inspector at Ilfov County School Inspectorate and one of the Romanian project team members, has contributed to the development of the Methodological landmarks for the implementation of the grade 11 (ISCED 3) curriculum in the 2023-2024 school year. Within this document, available at national level, the EPLUG project was mentioned as a model of good practice in the context of sustainable development and urban greening, as well as the introduction of a new qualification thanks to our project – urban gardener.
