European Landscape Contractors Association Looks Back at 2022

Founded in 1963, the European Landscape Contractors Association (ELCA) is the world’s largest professional organisation of landscape contractors. Promoting cooperation as well as the exchange of information and experience between member organisations, ELCA is increasing awareness around the wider Landscaping Industry in Europe and around the world.

As a primary organising partner for the European Platform for Urban Greening, ELCA aims to connect industry stakeholders with vocational education institutions and harness the momentum generated by their activities to accelerate a movement for change and innovation across the Green Sector.

In May 2022 ELCA and their European partners had a very fruitful learning and exchange experience about urban landscaping in Utrecht, Netherlands, as part of the European Platform for Urban Greening’s first meeting of the year. The program was divided between working sessions and on site excursions. During this 3-day program, we visited the Floriade open air temporary exhibition. The theme of this year was “Growing Green Cities“. Of course, this has to do with climate change, a subject that is at the top of agendas all over the world. Here the visitor sees various solutions to make cities greener, healthier, and more fun. The Netherlands has a long-standing tradition of garden shows.

In September, ELCA took part in a trip to Denmark for our second European Platform for Urban Greening transnational project meeting of the year. The EPLUG project aims, inter alia, at developing Centers of Vocational Excellence in all partner countries (Spain, Netherlands, Romania, Finland, Denmark, Czech Republic): enhancing partnerships between schools and companies. The 3-days meeting in the Aarhus region was equally divided between workshops and on site visits of urban landscaping projects. On this occasion, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between all project partners from six different countries was also officialised to act our long-term cooperation strategy.
