Water management is a critical part of the biodiversity and the European Platform for Urban Greening project. We need to have means to manage water because more and more extreme climate conditions appear such as storms and drought.
In Finland VRJ Group works closely with storm water on worksites. One worksite is situated in Tampere, Northern Hervanta, and that is pure storm water basin worksite that has started in 2022 and will be completed in October 2023.
The contract includes the stone work on the northern Hervanta main lane, the planting work in the middle lane and the meadow vegetation next to the storm water basin. In addition to the stonework VRJ Länsi-Suomi carried out the sowing of meadow vegetation in the large storm water basin next to the area and the installation of a ready-made seed erosion mat.
A seed erosion mat was installed for 1500 m2 steep slope area for which it is specially intended. Storm water from the heavily expanding district is channeled into worksite storm water basin. The workers installed the ready-made seed erosion mats around the entire area on the edges of the pool in several rounds. In addition, they used a hydroseeder to sow meadow vegetation from seed to the areas outside the erosion mats on several hectares.
The work was challenging because the slope was steep and clayey in some places. It was also slippery. The workers George, Karamo, Sanna and Dagmara handled the work quickly and professionally and in the end the result is absolutely fantastic as you can see from the pictures. The pictures are during work and after a few weeks when the area is already greening up beautifully.
