In Ulft, Netherlands, the first Urban Oases are launched. These are ‘green city lungs’ full of innovative technology, designed to make the environment cleaner and more sustainable.
The pilot in Ulft is an exploratory project to improve the quality of life in cities. A ground-breaking project that will be scaled up internationally to improve the quality of life in urban areas. Interested parties, companies and research institutions are invited to visit and participate.
The idea for the Urban Oases comes from landscape designer Nico Wissing:
“World cities are in urgent need of a solution to the gigantic pollution they have to deal with. We would like to contribute to that with the urban Oases.”
The internationally awarded landscape visionary works together with local manufacturing industry and scientists such as the Delft professor Bob Ursem, who is involved in bio mimicry. Processes that take place in nature are translated into products and technology that can be used by humans. Bio mimicry also forms the basis for the development of the particulate matter magnet that is used in the Urban Oases for air purification.
The Urban Oases are a modular system with five core features:
- Plants to increase biodiversity
- A special particulate dust magnet for non-stop air purification
- Turning rainwater into filtered drinking water
- Generating electricity with solar
- Bonding CO2 with olivine
Sensors in the park continuously scan the air quality and various parameters set the various technologies in motion.
