What Was New in 2022 in the Czech Republic?

4 minute read

During 2022 The Czech Republic has focused on, among other things, a smart irrigation system, and have strengthened green sector cooperation through their Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE).

Smart Irrigation – A Practical Teaching Tool

Water scarcity in the landscape and global warming is a challenge that the Earth’s current population has to cope with. We believe that even small practical actions by individuals can contribute to the overall improvement of the climate conditions in which we live. That’s why we start with ourselves.

The founding partners of the Czech CoVE, ITTEC and the Secondary Agricultural School & Agricultural College, Benešov, together built a smart irrigation system on the school grounds. The irrigation is controlled fully automatically based on data collected from sensors and radar and uses rainwater that is collected in a tank located 4.5 metres deep.

The whole installation will not only save irrigation water significantly, but will also serve as a practical tool for teaching students and participants in lifelong learning courses on urban water management. Students will experience on their own how to build and use a smart irrigation system and, as a follow-up, how to design and technically solve the irrigation system in AutoCAD.

Expanding the Czech base of CoVE

At the beginning of the project, our small team focused on setting goals and procedures to achieve them. This important preparatory phase is now behind us and more partners are joining the Czech project base, with whom we will gradually implement the set goals.

The ideas of sustainability, biodiversity and the need to adapt the urban environment to a changing climate are also shared and embraced by representatives of Czech cities. Representatives of the following Central Bohemian towns have confirmed their interest by signing the Memorandum of Understanding: the town of Benešov and the town of Votice.

We are also discussing mutual cooperation within the Czech Centre of Vocational Excellence with two vocational schools. These are the Secondary School of Horticulture Rajhrad (he biggest horticultural school in the South Moravian region) and the Secondary School of Horticulture & Agriculture Libverda from the northern part of the Czech Republic.
